DMP e 钻孔（或柔性）膨胀仪设备专为原位测定 96 毫米或 101 毫米钻孔中岩体的变形模量而设计。
DMPe 膨胀仪由带金属中心体的探头组成。探头包括：
一个可充气膜（橡胶套筒），配有三对间隔 120° 的金属嵌件；分体弹簧环和双锥膜固定系统；三对感应式位移传感器，每对有两个测量点；一个压力传感器，可测量探头内的压力；一个沉积物收集器。探头使用 D/P BOX 读数仪读数，该读数仪由安卓平板操作（详见 D/P BOX 数据表）。专用应用程序允许配置测试和校准、实时显示和绘制测试结果、记录数据。
膨胀仪探头设计为使用钻杆柱下放到钻孔中。使用压缩氮气干燥气体对探头加压。
钻孔膨胀仪试验包括以逐级压力步进对岩石加载，并测量由此产生的直径变形。
该试验用于生成以下参数：
整体变形模量；循环加载下测量的弹性模量；蠕变参数；岩体各向异性
